SmartCode @ Work Registration

This webinar addresses form-based codes at the regional level, and looks at case studies and lessons learned from writing form-based codes for counties. Learning Objectives: 1: Explain the environmentally destructive effects of sprawl-inducing zoning and subpision regulations. 2: Describe the critical need for thoroughfare calming and retrofitting to encourage pedestrians and cyclists, and plan for appropriate connectivity that can reduce VMT and CO2 production. 3: Assess the methods of implementing Transect-based, form-based codes at the regional or county scale. 4: Participants will begin to understand how to employ a Form-Based Code to define appropriate regional community types, including sectors appropriate for sprawl repair.

Susan Henderson, a practicing architect and published author, has led numerous form-based coding efforts and related projects, including the inaugural Driehaus Form-Based Code Award winner, Leander, Texas – plus codes in Fitchburg, Wisconsin; Hutto, Texas; Kona, Hawaii; El Paso, Texas; Lawrence, Kansas; New Castle County, Delaware; Lauderhill, Florida; Bellevue, Kentucky; and Taos, New Mexico. As a CNU-accredited and LEED-AP, she brings an expertise in sustainability to FBC writing. She is a contributor to the SmartCode & Manual as well as author of the SmartCode Landacape Module, the Mississippi Renewal Forum: Architecture Report and Traditional Construction Patterns. Susan serves as a board member on the Transect Codes Council. She is a Principal of PlaceMakers, and Director of Design.
