SmartCode @ Work RegistrationMiami case study with Marina Khoury – $49 for a 75 minute recorded session –
Miami, Florida is the largest city to adopt a mandatory SmartCode for its jurisdiction. This webinar examines the urban design and form-base code writing of this initiative, as well as looks at the political and design impacts of the zoning reform results. We look at the Miami21 form-based code as a case study for reversing the harmful effects of sprawl on the built and natural environment. Using the model SmartCode, participants begin to learn how to employ a Form-Based Code to retrofit sprawl into complete, compact, walkable communities and urban centers. Marina Khoury is an expert in traditional neighborhood development and form-based codes and speaks on issues related to creating affordable, sustainable, walkable communities. A licensed architect, she is the director of town planning at the firm of Duany Plater-Zyberk and Company (DPZ) and leads the Washington D.C. office. Khoury manages new town plans and urban redevelopment plans in the United States, Canada and Europe. She is also the DPZ project director forMiami 21, an initiative which is rewriting the City of Miami's current zoning code into the largest-known application of a form-based code.
